Contrary to media reports alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari snubbed the recent South-East Economic and Security Summit in Enugu, below is the accurate account.
The President was presented with a request to attend the Economic and Security Summit by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.
The President happily accepted. The visit to Enugu was scheduled for Thursday 22 as can be found on the weekly programme.

After this was done, some other stakeholders from the South East came and advised him to not go in view of the closeness of the date to Christmas; that given the sensitivity of the period to the people, a presidential visit may come with overexertion and possibly, be disruptive of Christmas.

In view of this, President Buhari requested that the event be pushed forward to January, 2017. Given his nature, he did not insist. He said if the change of date is not possible, then the event can go on without him. That is what the organizers chose to do.

The decision was "shameful," the Prime Minister repeated multiple times.

"The Security Council decision calls Israeli land occupied and that is just shameful, the decision calls the Western Wall occupied land, it is shameful," Netanyahu said. 

Speaking of US President Barak Obama's choice to abstain from voting, Netanyahu said that Obama went against Israel, backing out of the commitment it had made to stand for Israel.

"The decision not only does not help us make peace, it stands in the way of peace," stated Netanyahu.

The premier continued, speaking of the current civil war in Syria, question why of all the current problems happening in the middle east, the security council chose to pick on the only democracy in the region.

Israel will not accept the decision and it will be cancelled, he stated, though it may take time. He also stated that Israel would stop funding UN institutions.

Netanyahu has instructed Israel's ambassadors in New Zealand and Senegal to return to Israel for consultations, his spokesman said on Friday, in response to a UN resolution on settlements.

The United Nations Security Council voted on Friday to adopt a resolution condemning Israeli settlement activity as illegal, and demanding that Israel "immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the 'occupied' Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem.

Fourteen out of the 15 voting members of the Council voted in favor of the resolution, none voted against it, and the United States chose to abstain instead of casting its veto on the initiative.

The vote was originally scheduled to take place on Thursday, but in a dramatic turn of events, Egypt, which had introduced the draft resolution, withdrew it just hours before it was due to be considered at the Security Council, as President-elect Donald Trump came out squarely against it, saying the resolution “should be vetoed.

 BREAKING!!! CAN Ask Nigeria To Withdraw From Islamic Finance Body, Says Nigeria Is Not An Islamic State. 

 

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) says Nigeria’s membership of the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILMC) should be withdrawn.

Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was made chairman of the IILMC during the 17th governing board meeting of the organisation in Jakarta, Indonesia.

But in a statement on Thursday, Bayo Oladeji, media assistant to Samson Ayokunle, president of CAN, said this was contrary to section 10 of the Nigerian constitution, which states that “the government of the federation or a state shall not adopt any religion as state religion”.

He said based on the constitution, Nigeria could not join any body that is religious.

Against this background, Nigerians should focus on some pertinent questions with intent to make the government offer right answers,” he said.

The questions are as follow; What is Nigeria doing in Islamic and Shariah compliant organisation? Who authorised the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to join this organisation? What provision of our constitution supports our membership of a religious association as a secular state?

We also recall how President Muhammadu Buhari not only smuggled Nigeria into the ’34-state Islamic military alliance against terrorism’ but he and his government poured invectives and venoms on those who spoke against his unconstitutional action.”

Ayokunle expressed concerns over majority of security agencies being headed by people from a particular religion.

He said lopsidedness could be traced in different areas of the current administration.

“Do we need to repeat our concern that almost all the heads of security paramilitary agencies in Nigeria today are Muslims, as if Christians have become second class citizens or rather lack competent officers to in charge! Has Nigeria become an Islamic state?” he asked.

We also recall the controversy surrounding the funding of Jaiz bank, an Islamic institution, with the public money by the immediate past CBN governor with impunity.

Recently, when the minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu overhauled the heads of the 17 parastatals and agencies under his watch, 13 out of 17 of them were and are Muslims! Is this government saying it is only Muslims that can be trusted?

A government that is interested in the unity and peace of the country should not be taking actions such as the lopsidedness of its appointments at the expense of one religion with impunity.”

CAN said the Buhari government is not a listening one and that is dangerous to the future of the country.

Equally, we are surprised by the argument being canvassed in some quarters that Nigeria is not a secular, but a multi-religious nation. Assuming but not conceding that Nigeria is a multi-religious state, should the government policies be pro one of the religions at the expense of the others?” he asked.

Many of our Christian brothers and sisters are being killed like rams in hundreds by the Fulani herdsmen while our security agencies look elsewhere all because none of their heads is a Christian. This is not the Nigeria dreamt of by our founding fathers, and it is high time the government woke up to its constitutional responsibilities.

Christians have equal rights with our Muslim counterparts since the 1999 Constitution recognises the multiplicity of religions and we will no longer pretend as if all is well with Nigeria. Let it be stressed here that we love our Muslim brothers and sisters in this nation and we are aware that we cannot do without one another.

Youths from every region in BiafraLand were not left out in this call for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's release. They chanted Biafra Freedom Songs and it was resounded that the World may know that a harm on Nnamdi Kanu is a harm to humanity. They also demanded that, the three other defendants must be released, alongside IPOB Leader. The IPOB Leader was appreciated passionately for defending the Biafra quest even on detention and for not succumbing to a compromise despite the pressure and offers by the Nigeria Government.

An Eze in Igweocha has stated that, nobody can stop them from getting Biafra restored. He stretched his speech by warning the Nigeria Government, never to harm his Son Nnamdi Kanu for only exercising his right to self determination. He declared the support of the Igweocha people and wooed any Rivers man who has not yet keyed into the struggle. Other Traditional rulers in an interview with Ibeh Gift Amarachi Of Family Writers thunderously roared that, the Nigeria Government cannot put a stop to the Biafra quest because it is spiritually anchored.


They went further to state that, If Buhari does not release their Leader,Nigeria will not know peace and the Zoo called Nigeria must fall. Speaking with Mr Okon from AkwaIbom State,he told Family Writers that, "The days of divide and rule is over. And that the people of Ibibio and Efik have traced their origin which was exposed by their son Nnamdi Kanu and nothing can break their bonds with Igbo speaking Biafrans".

 

The programme ended with the traditional rulers, joining together and placing their hands on the floor to carry out a Biafran Traditional Prayer "IgOfor" to bless Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and lay curses upon Nigeria for impoverishment, mayhem, deaths, captivity and the unlawful detention of their children. They blessed those who are fighting tremendously and effortlessly hard, to get Biafra restored and prayed that Chukwuokikeabiama shall preserve and keep them until Biafra is restored.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged people of the south-east zone to “shy away from the spirit of individualism” and unite to achieve the political aspirations that had eluded them.

Speaking on Thursday at the south-east security and economic summit in Enugu, Obasanjo, said the zone would not achieve much with continued individualism and lack of cohesion.

He said the people of the area seemed to have forgotten their spirit of enterprise and communal efforts, which stood them apart from other ethnic groups in the country.

Obasanjo said the zone is unique and that it needed to use its uniqueness to its advantage to negotiate the actualization of its aspirations.

“He said that the south-east is known for their spirit of enterprise and adventure and you have to utilise it for improved development and security,” he said.

“He said that you must work together and not be divided. You must shy away from the spirit of individualism and must earn solidarity with your neighbors.”

He also urged the state governments to leverage on the abundant natural resources in the zone to improve the lives of their people.

Obasanjo said the south-east could be the food basket of the nation, adding that the south-east states government needed to take the responsibility of engaging the youth to be creative.

“I don’t think I should be eulogised for facilitating this summit in the south-east because I did the same thing when I visited Maiduguri because of the problem of Boko Haram,” Obasanjo said.

Earlier, Emeka Anyaoku, chairman of the summit, said the event was non-partisan and a commitment to the economic and security well-being of the region.

Anyaoku, who is a former secretary-general of the Commonwealth, said the south-east felt neglected, as it was experiencing the worst economic challenge in the country.

“Although every other zone in the country is experiencing economic malaise, that of the south-east is more grievous,” he said.

“There is a sense of neglect and non-inclusion in this zone by the federal government and that is why coordination among the state governments is very necessary.”

He appealed to the state governors and the organised private sector to devote greater attention to building bridges of unity in the zone.

Anyaoku said there would be no need for the federal government to periodically bailout state governments if the country was restructured with fewer federating units.

“The summit is also working for the advancement of the entire country. If the Nigerian federation is restructured with fewer units, this country will achieve greater stability,” Anyaoku said.

The event was attended by governors of Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi and the deputy governor of Anambra.

Other dignitaries were Alex Ekwueme, former vice-president; Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, and Azubuike Ihejirika, former chief of army staff.
